We are very sad to report that a dear friend of this congregation passed away on Thursday, July 10th. Jared Bailey not only attended services at St. Agnes' on occassion, he was also a neighbor to the church when he owned a gun repair shop in the building next door. Jared's mother, Joy Short, is the church housekeeper. Members of St. Agnes' have met with the family for prayer and have delivered meals for people visiting the home. The funeral visitation will be Saturday the 12th, 1 to 8 p.m. at Cowan First Baptist Church. The funeral will be on Sunday the 13th, 4:30 p.m., at Cowan First Baptist Church.
Fr. Janeway is recovering beautifully from his recent car accident. He has been at Siskin Rehabilitation for two weeks now and may return home as early as July 15th. We sincerely appreciate everyone's prayers and encouragement!
The Parish Sunday School class will focus on the women of the Bible through the summer months. Everyone is invited and encouraged to join us Sunday mornings at 10:00 in the parish hall.
The Primary and Secondary children's Sunday School classes are on summer break through the end of August. In that timeframe, we are remodeling our Sunday school classrooms and revamping our Sunday school program.
The congregation at St. Agnes' truly blesses the Lord our God for the ministry of Fr. John Awan in Fr. Janeway's absence. Fr. Awan has served as our visiting priest for the past 12 months by filling in on alternate Sunday's. While Fr. Janeway works on his recovery from injuries, Fr. John Awan will assume an increased role as Priest & Curate for St. Agnes' on an 18-month term. Besides leading services on a regular basis, Fr. Awan will also attend Mission Council meetings, administer pastoral care needs, and hold office hours on a regular schedule. St. Agnes' Church has grown substantially in the last two years and is positioned to grow further as the Cowan community revives and redevelops. This truly represents a wonderful opportunity for Fr. John Awan and his developing ministry!
Since our last report, the kitchen window has been reconditioned and the air conditioner window in the new office/library has been completely reframed. The project to recondition the front door of the church has now begun and should be finished very soon.
