St. Agnes' Church

Cowan, TN

Worship:

This church family gathers on Sundays to "worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness" (Psalm 96:9).

Our services follow the simple, ancient and enormously beautiful liturgy that is passed down to us through the centuries of Christianity. Using the Book of Common Prayer, we follow the Rite I service that uses the traditional, King James-style language.

We celebrate Holy Communion on a regular and frequent basis. This celebration comes to us as a true and valid Sacrament ordained by Christ himself and brought down to us through the historic succession of apostles.

In our services of worship, whatever the occasion, the Holy Scriptures form the very foundation of the things we say, sing, read and recite.

For traditional Anglicans, worship is not a time of entertainment or a time to simply "get refreshed." Instead, worship is a time we spend in the very presence of the Lord our God where we are transformed and made anew by His Word and Sacraments.

Christian Education:

We devote a significant part of our life as a church family studying the Holy Scriptures and tracing the traditions of the church.

We offer Sunday school every week at 10:00 a.m. for adults and children. Our programs have an open-Bible emphasis and follow different topics based on the seasons of the church year. We also provide classes for people seeking Baptism or Confirmation on an as-needed basis.

Ministries of Mercy:

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth whatsoever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40).

In response to God's Gift of Grace, we are firmly committed to helping the poor, the friendless, and the needy.

One of our signature ministries at St. Agnes' is the Anglican Angels program: a gift closet of baby and maternity items that we distribute to the community. This program was developed in cooperation with Anglicans for Life (formerly NOEL).

Another important ministry we have maintained for several years is the distribution of holiday gift baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. In it, we deliver fresh goods to families and individuals in grief or extraordinary circumstances so that they too may share in a joyful feast.

St. Agnes' also maintains a disciplined church budget whereby 10% of our monthly income goes to ministries outside the church, such as Good Samaritan, Haven of Hope, Medical Missions to Ecuador, ChildReach Africa, and others.

Lay Participation:

The church is a community of believers; therefore her function as the Body of Christ depends on individual gifts.

Members of our church family serve in the life and ministry of the church as acolytes, altar servers, Eucharistic ministers, Eucharistic visitors, Altar Guild, lay readers, groundskeepers, and other such capacities.

Feel free to ask about any of these opportunities.
